A Lesson on the Biafran War in Igbo and English

Ndewo! (Hello!) If you're new to the club, nnọọ (welcome). We had our last virtual and in-person meetings of the year this past weekend, and it was wonderful. It included a lesson on the Biafran War taught in Igbo and English, breakout rooms, and giveaways to two Club members.

Here’s what was covered in the September virtual meeting:

Idenze, the founder of Ozi Ikoro, was our fantastic guest instructor! He is a history and culture enthusiast with a deep passion for exploring the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and historical narratives of Africans, particularly the Igbo people.

  • Onye nkuzi anyị (our teacher) used Igbo and English to teach a lesson about the Biafran war, the contributions from Black Americans, and the impacts of the War on the Igbo language, and much more.

  • The presentation slides from the September meeting include the full lesson, the audio recording to follow along with, and additional resources.

  • Learning about the Biafran War will help you, as an Igbo learner, better understand Igbo culture, history, and identity. Check out these books if you are looking for a deeper understanding of the War:
