The Igbo Language Club May Newsletter

Food, Drinks, & Household Items

Ndewo! (Hello!) If you're new to the club, nnọọ (welcome). Daalụ (thank you) to everyone who joined the May virtual meeting about food, drinks, and household items in the Igbo language (asụsụ Igbo)!

If you missed the May virtual meeting, nsogbu adịrọ (no problem). You're encouraged to join the next one in June. First-timers are especially welcome—it's never too late to learn the Igbo language. Meetings are completely free, and we’d love to see you there!

Here’s what was covered in the last meeting:

Maazị (Mr.) Obiora Udeagbaja was our amazing guest instructor! He is from Amesi, Agụata, Anambra State, Nigeria, and currently resides in England. As a native Igbo speaker, he takes pride in the Igbo language and culture and is passionate about educating others.

  • 🍽️ We learned the Igbo words for commonly used foods (nri/nni/ ihe oriri), drinks (ihe ọṅụṅụ), and household items (ihe dị n'ụlọ).

  • 🧠 Maazị Udeagbaja used each word in a sentence to help us understand how they are used in everyday conversations and to build our vocabulary in context.

  • 🖥️ The presentation slides from the May session include the full lesson, audio recordings to follow along with, and additional resources to help you dive deeper into the topic.

If you have any feedback about the May meeting, please share—your input is greatly appreciated!
