The Igbo Language Club June Newsletter

Recap from the June virtual meeting, sign up for July, Charlotte meetup #2

Ndewo! (Hello!) Taa bụ ụbọchị ụka nna (Today is Father’s Day). Happy Father’s Day to the amazing fathers.

If you're new to the club, nnọọ (welcome). Daalụ (thank you) to everyone who joined the June virtual meeting about work and education in the Igbo language (n’asụsụ Igbo)!

If you missed the June virtual meeting, nsogbu adịrọ (no problem). You're encouraged to join the next one in July. First-timers are especially welcome—it's never too late to learn the Igbo language. Meetings are completely free, and we’d love to see you there!

Here’s what was covered in the last meeting:

👨🏾‍🏫 Maazị (Mr.) Ojukwu was our amazing instructor — and nna m (my father)! He is from Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria, and is dedicated to promoting Igbo culture and community in the Washington, DC area of the U.S.

📓Josephine Nwaogu was our special guest. She and Maazị (Mr.) Ojukwu practiced having a conversation about work and education in the Igbo language.

Josephine is a Houston native, law student, and proud Igbo daughter committed to strengthening cultural ties and improving educational access in Nigeria. As a member of the Igbo Language Club and a contestant in the Miss Diaspora Nigeria USA Pageant, she is using her platform to bridge cultural gaps and support students in Nigeria through education-focused initiatives. You can support her platform and journey by voting and following her on Instagram. Your vote directly supports efforts to combat hunger in underserved communities.

🖥️ The presentation slides from the June session include the full lesson, audio recordings to follow along with, and additional resources to help you dive deeper into learning about work and education in the Igbo language.
